Celebrity moment of the day:
I was leaving my interviews with BBC World News and BBC News Channel...
(quick funny story...ok...now this truly became a blog....now, we have been working with Sharon Carpenter of BET who has the coolest British accent for the past few days and NOW I am working this BBC set for 2 interviews. So, 'cause of hearing all of these English folks over the past few days, I accidentally repeated the anchor’s accent while saying “good afternoon” to him, but instead of sounding like I was from the other side of the pond, I sounded like a jabroni (a little Pittsburghese for you there.) The words were blotched with a combined Southern accent and hint of Pittsburghese. Good job there, Len. And to think – they ASKED for me to do this because I’m “...so well spoken...”)
I digress.
I was leaving my interviews with BBC World News and BBC News Channel and headed back over to the Café (HHR's unofficial office area). I walk up the steps and, lo and behold...
Lynn Swann.
The man that inspired Ato Grice and me to destroy Mrs. Ross’ bushes when we were little boys playing a game called “Lynn Swann.” The object? One of us would throw the ball into the bushes. “Lynn Swann” would jump as high as he could, catch the ball, and fall into the bushes in a fashion similar to the Baryshnikov in Cleats.
I went up to him and shook his hand, told him that I was a native Pittsburgher, and explained the game briefly to him. He smiled.
That is one of the few times that I felt a little star-struck this week. Heck, Mitt Romney walked past me on, what, Monday? I met John McCain and he's the reason why we're here in St Paul. I mean, that’s cool and historical and all, but none of them ever caught a touchdown pass in a Super Bowl game, let alone three of them.
HERE WE GO, STEELERS, HERE WE GO!
