Sept 2 - Celebrity moment of the day

lnl2002

Celebrity moment of the day:

I was listening to my iPod, working on this piece in between meetings and

saw JC Watts walking through the lobby. I got a nod and a wave once he saw me. Being in  some sort of music trance with LL going in my head (I’m certainly old school when it comes to hip hop –  a lot more energetic “battle music” than what you find today, as far as I’m concerned), I end up giving JC Watts the peace sign. Yes – I threw up 2 fingers and kept nodding my head. Wow. Then, I realized who was walking past and I gave a more appropriate gesture to a former congressman: a simple wave and a genuine smile.

Heck, I think that I take stuff for being a Republican. I KNOW that he took more. Much respect to him. I must be getting a little tired. Back in school, they used to call me "2 Hype" for a lot of reasons, including my high-revving energy level.

I feel like about 1.17 Hype right about now...

Congressman, I met no disrespect. I apologize. Please don’t revoke my Black GOP membership card. Besides, you know that there are only 5 of us left.

Just kidding, of course. Now, if you will, that would be the impression you’d get if you looked at the convention floor, especially in sharp contrast to last week.

And, while I think about it, is it me or does it seem as though last Thursday’s speech  was a million days ago.

I won’t say that the media is doing a bad job of finding the Black folks here at the convention. Truth of the matter is this: we don’t do a great job of attracting minorities because Black people have shown us that they don’t like what the Republicans have had to offer. As well, Republicans has learned that they can win the presidency 71% of the time over the last 28 years without having to engage the Black vote, so from a strategy standpoint, why spend the resources, especially when there are very few that are in place to call people out when things go awry?

Nah. I’d rather be true to my philosophy, just in case we – all of us – need to be engaged. Besides, it’s our government all of the time, not just 29% of the time. WE might as well work to be engaged with it 100% of the time.
