Unsealed testimony reveals that Major League Baller Barry Bonds tested positive for elevated testosterone in 2001. He made a lot of excuses: that he didn't know, that he was abducted by alien steroid zombies, that everyone is different. He's right—some people are just more mannish than others. Maybe they tested him after he watched a Shaft marathon, or while he was listening to NWA in his headphones. I could see how macho movies and aggressive rap lyrics could stoke his T-levels. Maybe, but I doubt it. I think Barry Bonds took performance enhancing drugs. And the time has come for Bonds to step up, be a man and confess his doping sins. Not just because he broke the rules, but because there are kids out there who look up to him. He can still redeem himself by doing the right thing.
He can't undo the drugs that he's done, and his legacy is sufficiently tainted and annotated. But the way for him to salvage what's left of his reputation is to come clean. There's a lot to be said for standing up to face the music. Yes, I've heard the argument that officials haven't dogged Mark McGuire the way they hound Bonds for similar accusations. It's true: there does seem to be some different treatment. In the long run, I'm not sure it matters. Bonds has been chasing history for the better part of his life. He should do the noble thing now and not let history smear his name. Bonds should Man Up and come clean about his steroid use.
It's hard but it's fair.
