Valentine's Day is tomorrow and there's nothing like it to make you down on love, especially when you're single. But Gary Coleman's story gives us all hope. Looks like the 40-year-old Coleman has found love at long last in 22-year old Shannon Price, and they've been secretly married now for months. I'm happy for him, but amazed---there are full-sized grown men with jobs who can't find a wife. And sadly, after all black women's complaints about the lack of eligible black men, another one bites the dust. Oh well. Good for him, but black women everywhere are in mourning.
I can't hate on Coleman too bad—this is his first shot at matrimony and I've been to divorce court twice already. I think his sojourn down the aisle should inspire all the bitter love-burned among us to give happiness a chance and be open to finding love in unlikely places … like Nick at Nite or TV Land.
The former child star with a violent temper is probably not the guy you'd want your daughter to bring home. I dare say, only OJ Simpson would give potential in-laws more pause. Not just because of Coleman's tantrums, but who's going to pay the rent? But real love don't cost a thing, and like any woman would, Shannon's down for her man, helping with his hustle selling Gary Coleman memorabilia—like his Blackberry or musty T-Shirt, SIGNED!!—on EBay. Word on the block is Gary's hit hard times. But all that could change. These newlyweds are the recipe for a crash-and-burn reality show—maybe 'Guess Who Comin' to Dinner, Willis?' or something like that, leading some to speculate that this isn't exactly a love thang. But don't speculate: Congratulate.
Love is hard to find in any parcel, and if Gary Coleman can find his match, there's hope for us all.
It's hard but it's fair.
