North Carolina [call]

lacewellm

Marc

This morning I am proud of my connections to North Carolina. I am an alum of Wake Forest and Duke University. My ex-husband’s family (whom I still adore) are from Wilmington, NC.    My best friend teaches at NC State University. My adorable young cousin, Dani has been volunteering for Barack all over the state and sending me text messages to let me know how things are going.  In many ways, North Carolina is home.  So I am taking particular joy in the big win last night in the Tarheel state.

So I have given my Obama-boogie a little dirty South style by taking some liberty with Petey Pablo’s incomparable “Raise Up”

This one's for North Carolina! C'mon and raise up
Voted for Barack, we love ya’ll
Gonna give us a new black President
North Carolina! C'mon and raise up
This one's for you, uh-huh, this one's for who?
Us, us, us; yes sir!

My favorite fact of the night. George W. Bush won a greater percentage of the black vote in North Carolina in 2004 than HRC won last night.

I truly wish we had taken Indiana too. I had a whole Jackson 5 riff I was going to do. For now I am just enjoying the big NC win.  Our Root.com colleague Jack White said that Barack needed to perform a little Michael Jordan impression to win this thing.  How perfect that he did just that in Mike’s home state. Ok, I am going to go have some shrimp and grits for breakfast.

Oooh girl, please don't ressurect Petey Pablo! (You're too dignified for that).  It believe it's time for the superdelegates to go ahead and wrap this thing up. HRC needs to go to her corner quietly and reflect on her next steps.

North Carolina African-Americans voted overwhelmingly for Obama last night. Please ask David Axlerod to let them be in the frame, ie on stage, behind him when he makes a victory speech.  If he's going to be the first Black President, when will he be allowed to be with a rartio of Blacks  equal to his supporters.

That's my whole thing soWaco Sistah.  If it wasn't for the black vote Obama wouldn't be where he is... BUT WHEN WILL HE BE ALLOWED TO BE SEEN WITH  A RATIO OF BLACKS EQUAL TO THE SUPPORT HE'S GETTING FROM THE BLACK COMMUNITY?  He seems to shun appearances with large quantities of black people.

They're afraid if they picture him with too many black people, then white people won't vote for him..

I have no respect for a "black" candidate who acts that way.

Barack isn't black he's BI-RACIAL

You know rainydaiyz, I am tired of people crying about Barack's lack of authenticity as if there is really a pure form of blackness out there that he needs to conform to, otherwise he's a sellout. Pleeeeeease!

It's politics. Brotha's trying to win! Give him a break. He's been pounded in the last few days and he goes out and wins NC big. He wants to send a new message, bring back detractors, look forward to the GE in November. And yes he needs Hillary's base of White women so he features them to send a message. Doesn't means he doesn't like brothas and sistas. He's doing his thing to get in the Big House on Pennsylvania Ave. That's the goal.

I am with Melissa on this one! Stayed up late until CNN called Indiana at 1 am and I had a big smile on my face all day.

Run Brotha Run!

. Obama has been running since Feb. 2007. White voters know he is Black, because his campaign is partly based on making him the  first US  Black President, Grover Cleveland notwithstanding. If North Ccarolina is one third Black and 90% of that population voted for Obama , where were they on election night?Where were  the Black elected officials who worked so hard for his stunning victory?

melissa can ressurect Raise Up cause thats some classic music.  c/s those dissapointed in the lack of black faces behind Obama.  We know he has to play the game but still wtf?  not even 1?

rainydayz--if it wasn't for the black vote, no Democrat in recent years would be where they were.

And as for the 'not really black' nonsense--what makes somebody black enough for you?  Please give me something substantial and not some stereotypical blabber.  I have to debate whites constantly over this type of thing--African-Americans are NOT monolithic and in politics an African-American can't win if they are only surrounded by African-Americans.

LOL!!! at the Petey Pablo remix.

Wow - very interesting Dubya/HRC comparison. But wouldn't that make sense as AAs show significantly more support for Obama than for Kerry?

My sister who lives in Charlotte wept at the sight of African-Americans old, young, crippled, using canes, wheelchairs, piling into cars and vans to vote for Obama.  She said that it was a sight to behold.  I bet it was!

Those Hillary votes Vs. George Bush votes stats are sad.  I can no longer  hate on rural white folks for voting for Bush, more war and Federal government terrorism against Americans.  No sir, it is nto them and them alone.  I can now add add rural, semi rural, and suburban AA North Carolinians to that pot of war mongering idiots who re-elected a bloody, snot-nosed buffoon.
