Last Night's Democratic Debate [Response]

melissa harrislacewell

Marc,

No doubt about it. You and I were watching the same "debate" last night. Smug, self-righteous, dishonest Hillary and her boy backers from the ABC network were definitely in rare form. They seemed determined to erase any remaining distinctions between serious, political journalism and tabloid-style, infotainment politics.

As bloggers we are partly responsible for blurring this line. Having to compete with witty, 24-hour banter like ours is making the old newsmen crazy. I propose that all future debates be moderated by Dave Chappelle and Stephen Colbert.

As far as I can tell last night’s debate was supposed to establish three things. First, Barack Obama is not a patriot. He is just a special-interest politician like every other uppity Negro who imagines black folks in a democracy have the right to be both the rulers and the ruled.

Second, there is no need to worry, because we will all be saved by warmonger Hillary Clinton who is prepared to flex her Bush-extended executive power to invade sovereign nations at a moment’s notice. Her message: fear not middle America, a new Clinton administration will be unfettered by civil liberties, international treaties, or constitutional checks on executive power.

Finally, Democrats are determined to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Democratic Party leadership is too impotent to reign in the petty, divisive, power-hungry Clintons. So we all have to watch as Democrats look smaller in public estimation even as John McCain grows more presidential in tone and tenor every day.

I will say this Marc: I still believe. No matter what happens with silly pundits like us or ridiculous ones like Charlie and George, I still believe in the American people. I still believe Americans want a better country. I believe they are going to make one even if they have to wade through this mess to get there.

After all, even while the debate raged on last night, Bruce Springsteen, The Boss, made it clear that Obama is his man. At least the Democratic Party still has a Boss somewhere!

Whoops, what happened to that high road I was supposed to be following? I guess I am pretty angry after last night. You forgive a sista don’t you Marc?

Melissa

WHAT A WASTE OF PRECIOUS TIME.  THESE TWO "JOURNALISTS" ARE FROM THE SAME GROUP OF SYCOPHANTS WHO WERE MUTE WHEN PRESIDENT BUSH WAS STEERING THIS COUNTRY TO WAR.  THEY NEVER ASKED PROBING QUESTIONS BEFORE OUR YOUNG PEOPLE WERE SENT INTO BATTLE AND NOW, AT A CROSSROAD OF HISTORY, THEY FOCUS ON THE COLOR OF THE DRAPES WHILE ROME IS BURNING.

IT WAS A BITTER PILL TO SWALLOW BUT MAYBE ENOUGH AMERICANS ARE FED UP WITH THE GAME OF THREE CARD MONTY BEING PLAYED TO EDUCATE THEMSELVES AND VOTE SMART.

THIS ELECTION IS FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES NOT PRESIDENT OF MY SENIOR CLASS IN HIGH SCHOOL.

BEING ARTICULATE AND THOUGHTFUL AND MEASURED AND INSPIRATIONAL AND  ADVERSE TO KNEE-CAPPING RANDOM OPPONENTS FOR THE SAKE OF STICKING TO THE ISSUES THAT IMPACT MY LIFE ARE QUALITIES TO ADMIRE AND FAVOR WHEN VOTING SMART.

CAN I GET A WITNESS JEREMIAH!!!

ABC Disney,

If your network's joining the Clinton campaign wasn't unprofessional enough, the unveiled Karl Rovian and Fox News manner in which the two ABC moderators turned an anticipated political debate into a KKK inquistion surely was.

Are consummers of ABC programing to presume going forward that ABC exec. mgnt. is dedicated to taking us back to the bad old days of "A Black man has no right that any white man is bound to respect? Tell us why, and apologize to pres. Obama.

Utterly Shameful.

BC.

ABC's response.

As you can imagine, we receive thousands of messages a day from our viewers and while we appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback regarding our programming, we are not able to respond to each one directly.

We encourage you to continue to communicate with us!

You might have been just being facetious in suggesting Chappelle or Colbert.

But, I think they'd do a fantastic job.

Better than ANY moderator on can imagine.

Don Imus is at it Again

This time, Imus uses expletives to describe Barack Obama on his radio show, words that we don't use on this website.

Imus wanted attention, and now he's got it. It's time we ended this nonsense and ignorant discourse in what should be a great time in our nation's politics.

I am calling on my political blogger nation (and we are deep, believe me) to put an end to Don Imus' career, once and for all. The nationwide political blogger groups should be called into action.

The full post can be found on my blog, with links to the video.

Yeah...Don Imus is definitley back at it again....But, I say the best way to disempower him is to ignore him....the more we call attention to him, the more we enable him. But don't dare fret, he will eventually loose it all somehow, someway, someday! In the meantime, let's focus our energies on cleaning up our own communities and making Barack Obama our next president!

You are NOT the angriest Ms. Harris-Lacewell:  e.g. From the hip:  Why are there still, at this point in time, black people who support the ClintonS/Billary?  Thinking (at least just a bit):  They can have that Johnson fellow.  They can also have Andrew Young ------- thinking here about that so-called (by him) joke he uttered when presenting his convoluted arguments for why not Obama.

Now, playing my cards, 52 up:  I'm never gong-ho re ANY politician.  Nevertheless, my opinion is that the ClintonS "hand" was visible since Sister Souljah and Rickey Ray Rector -------- selfish political calculation.  Now, yes, it could be argued that these two cases were tailor-made for the application of the southern strategy/tough-on-crime political calculation, with significantly plausible deniability.  There is no excuse for not seeing what is going on now.

Did anyone see that appearance Slick Willie made, soon after South Carolina, in that black church where he mentioned how he was shown his grandfather's books -------- how so many people owed him money?  How, nevertheless, his grandfather thought that a man should be able to feed his family if he worked hard and played by the rules? [I'm not quoting him here, but that was the sense of his comments].   This struck me because I had heard the story of this white man in Arkansas in the 50's (I think) who treated his black customers in such a way that it had an impression on his grandson which in no small way was instrumental in a sequence of events which produced, inter alia, Toni Morrison's attribution.
